Senior Program Manager, STEM Classes and Camps 

Location: Lexington, MA

As a Senior Program Manager for Empow Studios, and the most senior member of your Regional Director’s team, you will lead a team of program manager(s), site directors, and dozens of instructors to deliver outstanding STEM classes, camps and other programs to thousands of local students. Position Overview

What You Will Do
You will lead the program function in your region with the authority and accountability to achieve all program related goals. You will set annual goals with your Regional Director, keep him or her apprised of your progress, and proactively identify and solve challenges. Together with your team, and with the full support of the national office, you will:

Build, develop and manage your team
– Recruit, hire, train, coach and retain one or more program managers, and dozens of exceptional year-round and seasonal STEM instructors and site directors
– Gather and analyze qualitative and quantitative data on instructors using direct observation, surveys, and other methods
– Leverage your teaching, classroom management and STEM expertise, the expertise of your instructors, and national resources to continuously improve the capabilities of your team

Run high quality Empow STEM programs on budget for thousands of students 
– Run all programs according to Empow Studio guidelines
– Use defined methods and tools to measure program quality; achieve or exceed quality benchmarks
– Identify and analyze challenges, identify solutions and improvement opportunities, leverage national and peer resources, and implement continuous improvements
– Manage program planning and operations. Balance minute details and high-level strategy. Make sound decisions under tight deadlines. Proactively identify and mitigate risks
– Share best practices, and identify and advocate for needed improvements in nationally provided curriculum, technology, and other program supports
– Establish program budgets in partnership with your Regional Director and manage programs to budget

Build strong relationships with families 
– In partnership with your Regional Director, meet with prospective families and students to understand their needs, answer technical questions about our curriculum and pedagogy, develop individualized learning plans, and match them with the best-suited Empow programs
– Keep families apprised of their child’s progress and help them celebrate successes
– Ensure that instructors build strong mentor relationships with their students, and help students build friendships with each other
– Help customer service solve customer issues quickly and effectively

Characteristics of an Ideal Candidate 
STEM and teaching
– Familiar with much of the breadth of Empow’s STEM curriculum and deep expertise in at least one domain
– High level of success teaching classes and developing teachers
– Proven passion for STEM, education and youth

Team
– Demonstrated ability to lead a team to achieve outstanding results
– Experienced recruiting, hiring, training staff, and gathering and analyzing data in support of professional development

Relationships
– Demonstrated ability to build authentic relationships with a broad range of stakeholders including children, families, and school leaders
– Proven ability to work with and marshall the support of a wide range of internal stakeholders including peers, subject matter experts, and team leaders
– Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills

Program Management
– At least two years’ experience managing high quality educational programs
– Demonstrated success developing and managing complicated project plans with multiple initiatives on widely varying schedules; able to to zoom into the smallest details and zoom out to identify systemic issues

Other
– Willing to commute to the different locations you manage on a regular basis (generally within 30 minute drive)
– Flexibility and adaptability in your work schedule, including some evenings and weekends
– A BA/BS degree or higher in education or a STEM field or appropriate equivalent experience is required; higher level degrees are a big plus

Salary and Benefits
The salary for this position is $55,000 – $75,000 annually. This is a full-time position that includes benefits.
